Crown Candy Kitchen
Henry, waiting patiently for a table at the Crown Candy Kitchen.
My mom visited this weekend. With Patti, We went to lunch Monday to the St. Louis landmark, the Crown Candy Kitchen. It's like having lunch back in time at a 1950's drug store counter. It's so popular, we had to wait in line outside for about a half hour before we got a table. The Reuben sandwich was good, but my Turkey Bacon Melt was even better. However, I think my new rule may need to be "don't order French Onion Soup unless you are at a French restaurant."
We'll have to go back for dessert. We were too full to get it this time.

The Good, the Bad, and the Acne
H has pretty bad baby acne. His forehead broke out last week. That spot is now clear, but it has spread to everywhere else on his head. Poor little guy, it even is in his hair. It doesn't seem to bother him, but it has temporarily taken him out of the running for any "World's Cutest Baby" contests. He'll be back in contention soon- it's supposed to clear up in a couple weeks.

Photo Shoot with Janette
Janette came over today and we took pictures of our respective children using household objects as photo studio equipment, our sun room/bedroom serving as the studio. It seemed to take forever, as there were long pauses to feed babies, then ourselves, and often times to soothe a crying infant. For one brief minute, all three kids were crying. If was fun, and there are some pretty cute pictures as a result of our efforts.
For Dallas: Here's a picture of someone else's kid- the very photogenic Baby M.

This Bud's for You
We've just returned from taking Debbie and Mitch to the airport. We've had a great visit with them, but the time always seems so short. Our final stop as tourists was to take the Anheiser-Busch Inbev tour this morning. Here's Mitch with one of their famous Clydesdales.

Weekend Update
Nick's mom and brother are here visiting Easter weekend, so we've tried to pack in as much fun as we can stand. Nick and Mitch went to their first ever Cardinal's game. If you're in St. Louis, you have to love baseball. It's the law.
Debbie and Mitch also made it up the arch yesterday- they got the last two tickets available for the tram. It was very lucky and worked out quite well. We've also eaten Ted Drewe's custard, driven past the medical school, and of course visited the Botanical Garden. We're hoping to make a few more stops of fun tomorrow before they hop on a plane for Salt Lake.

Bright Eyes
The growth and development information the hospital gave me stated that newborns are alert one out of ten hours. H has obviously not read this theory. He spends a lot of time awake and looking around. By looking around, I mean staring at a nearby blank wall or trying to look at far away things but ending up cross-eyed.
Tummy Time
We gave H his first official tummy time session and Caesar got right in on the action. It only lasted for a couple of minutes before H grew tired of it. The top picture will serve as a size reference as H continues to grow, we'll just keep comparing him to Caesar.

Back Up to Birth Weight?
Don't worry. Nick's hands were just out of the frame. H was not going anywhere.
We needed to weight H to make sure he was eating enough. I'm going to take him to a proper baby scale later this week, but for now the kitchen scale worked fine. He was born at 8 lb 15 oz. Here the scale reads 9 lb 6 oz. I later weighed the outfit, hat and diaper, which came to a grand total of 6.5 oz, so I think we're pretty safe to say he's back up to birth weight.

Red Headed Step Child
Caesar feels a little ignored since baby H was born. We don't take him out as much. We haven't walked him in a while. We do remember to feed him, most of the time. We were finally reminded we had missed his usual bath by his stinkyness. He hadn't minded us forgetting to bathe him.
But he's still a happy dog and loves baby H.
Aunt Kim's Visit
Nick's Aunt Kim came to visit us Sunday with her husband Allen and their son Ben. They brought dinner, which was delicious, and we enjoyed catching up on the goings on of various family members. Aunt Kim held a sleeping baby H the entire time. Just as they were leaving he began to perk up, then he started crying- either because they were leaving or because he was hungry. Perhaps because of both.

Baby's First Bath
H's umbilical cord has fallen off, so this morning we gave him his first full bath, but it was still a sponge bath. He got us back by peeing on us a moment after this picture was taken. We were most impressed by the fact he also managed to hit the wall.

A Picture for the Grandmas
It's hard to believe H is a week old already. I can hardly believe I actually have baby now. I've caught myself waking up, and then being shocked that it's all real.
I got a lot of baby blankets as gifts. I thought I would have so many blankets I wouldn't know what to do with them all. Perhaps I would store some of them. It turns out, it is wise mothers who endowed me with so many blankets. H knows what to do with the blankets- he's going to wet them, spit up on them, etc. All the receiving blankets have been through the wash twice now.

Surprise Package
A package for Henry came in the mail today. The package itself was very cute. The ducks are even textured felt. But what was inside the package was even cuter.
Sam and Megan sent H a wonderful package of posh baby clothes. What a wonderful surprise. These clothes are so cute, it almost a shame they are worn by a baby who can't possibly appreciate how darling they are. H is going to be even more adorable in these than he already is.
Thanks Sam and Megan!

Hanging out with H
He has a birth mark above his right eye, and a little bit more on his forehead. The doctor said they'll fade in a year or two. I've had to change his clothes every time I've changed his diaper. Perhaps I'm not using the diaper correctly, because I thought it was supposed to hold all the fluid in. I think it's H's ploy to get to wear all his newborn size clothes as many times as possible, because I don't think they're going to fit for long.
